Water Rationing for Venezuel's Capital City
The capital of Venezuela is Caracas. This is a major city just a couple of miles from the Caribbean Sea.
If a concerted effort would be made to install a major desalinization plant, this city would not have a major water shortage.

Mexico City's environment director elected governor of World Water Council
It's just natural that, if you've been Mayor of Mexico City, that you would be qualified to head the World Water Council. Mexico is such a leader in water conservation and desalinization for subsistence and farming.

Ethiopia Asks For Urgent Food Aid
The Ethiopian government has asked the international community for emergency food aid for 6.2 million people.
The request came at a meeting of donors to discuss the impact of a prolonged drought affecting parts of East Africa.Generating Electric Power from the Clash of River and Sea Water
Although the cost of this is way more than a desalinization plant would cost, it is still a great idea and a great use of natural water currents.
"This concept of "salt power"—also known as osmotic, or salinity-gradient, power—has been kicked around for decades, and now, proponents hope, technology has advanced enough to make it economically competitive."

Matt Damon Launches Safe Water Organization
I just read the latest Esquire Magazine and there is a good story about Matt Damon and his pet project called water.org.
While I was in Eastern Africa, there was a very large desalinization process in place. It took water straight from the Indian Ocean. This process utilized Reverse Osmosis and provided water for thousands each day. This process on a grander scale could provide water for such drought and famine stricken places as Darfur.
But in fact, all places where there are water shortages for cities or farmland can benefit from this process. However, due to the cost of these large-scale setups, it is cost-prohibitive.
